Why Professional Pool Opening Matters
Prevent Costly Damage
An improperly started system can strain pumps and filters, cause leaks to go unnoticed, or damage equipment that sat idle over winter. Our technicians catch issues on day one — before they become expensive repairs.
Balanced Water from Day One
Starting with unbalanced water can cause staining, scale buildup, and swimmer discomfort. We test and treat your water at opening so it's safe and clear from the very first swim.
Save Time & Effort
Pool opening is a multi-step process that takes hours when done correctly. Let our certified technicians handle it so you can simply enjoy your pool when the weather's right.

When is the right time to open my pool in Virginia or Maryland?
In the Northern Virginia and Maryland area, most pool owners open their pools between late April and mid-May, once overnight temperatures consistently stay above 50°F. Opening too early isn't a problem—in fact, treating your water before algae season kicks in can actually make the process easier and reduce chemical costs.
If you're unsure about timing, give us a call and we can help you schedule based on your pool type and the current weather outlook.
What is included in a professional pool opening service?
Our pool opening service includes everything needed to get your pool safely and thoroughly up and running:
- Removal and storage of your winter pool cover
- Reinstallation and reconnection of pumps, filters, heaters, and accessories
- Initial debris vacuuming and surface skimming
- Shock treatment to clear up water after winter dormancy
- Full equipment startup, inspection for leaks, and circulation testing
- Water chemistry test to establish baseline chemical levels
Do you open saltwater pools?
Yes. Saltwater pools require a few additional steps at opening—including inspecting and cleaning the salt cell, checking salt levels, and calibrating the chlorine generator. Our technicians are experienced with all major salt chlorination systems and will ensure your system is running correctly from the first day of the season.
How long does a pool opening take?
Most residential pool openings take between 1.5 and 3 hours, depending on the size of your pool, the type of cover, and the condition of the water and equipment after winter. We'll let you know if any issues arise during the opening that may require additional service.

What Customers Say About Our Pool Opening Service
Hundreds of homeowners trust us every spring to get their pool ready right.

“Beltway pools was extremely helpful in us opening our pool. Our landlord had chosen not to open the pool the summer before we moved in so our pool was very green and dirty when we opened. Beltway pools from the beginning said we could not fully drain the water and acid wash since our pool was vinyl lined like other companies recommended. From the beginning it was obvious Beltway pools knew what they were doing. Rob and Sandra followed up with us over text throughout the opening process. Beltway pools was able to get our pool blue in a few weeks but the water was cloudy and turned green today. We couldnt figure out how it happened. Rob suggested it may be because our pool may have phosphates. He sent a test and phosphate killer. Overnight our pool became clear and clean and has stayed clean. Beltway pools vacuumed all the algae and we couldnt have made the pool clear and safe to swim without their help and expertise. They are very communicative, care about their clients, and knowledgeable at what they do. I fully recommend them to anyone who is seeking pool opening and maintenance in the area.”

“Dragan, Rob, Sandra and the whole team at Beltway Pools are simply fantastic and I could not possible recommend hiring anyone else for help with my pool and hot tub. They are reliable and professional to work with and take the time to listen and plan out the best course of action (we needed to completely resurface the pool of our fixer upper) to ensure that what we envisioned was executed perfectly. Highly, highly recommended and will be continue to use them for seasons to come! “Robert, Dragan, and their crew did an amazing job. I spent months getting quotes from several companies. Beltway pools’ wasn’t the least expensive but I felt that they were the most straightforward. Instead of just pushing me to replace everything, broken or not, they had more of a wait and see approach. They worked with us to come up with a plan to get the pool back operational as economically as possible, and then work on our “wants” list. Our pool had been closed for almost 10 years due to damage caused by changes in drainage made by construction in the neighborhood. At 65k gallons, the pool is extremely large and even more expensive than your average pool remodel. They removed several feet of debris, drained and scrubbed the pool, replace the tile & coping, the pool equipment, repairing equipment that could be fixed, and replacing what needed to be prioritized for upgrades. They did the entire project over a couple of weeks. They stated on time, stayed on budget, and were an absolute pleasure to work with. I have kept them on to handle the pool maintenance including opening and closing the pool and keeping it clean during the summer. Their prices are fantastic and as I mentioned, Robert isn’t going to sell you something that you don’t need. He’s going to help your pool become enjoyable again.”
