Fiberglass Pool Builder
Why Homeowners Choose Fiberglass
A fiberglass pool is a one-piece shell manufactured in a controlled factory environment, then delivered and set into your excavation in a single piece. That process is what makes fiberglass quick to install and easy to live with — and why it is one of the three inground pool types we build.
- ✓Fast installation — the shell arrives complete, so the pool is watertight in days, not weeks
- ✓Smooth gelcoat surface that resists algae and is gentle underfoot
- ✓Lower lifetime maintenance — no liner to replace and less brushing
- ✓Lower chemical and energy demand than a rougher interior
- ✓Lower upfront cost than a comparable fully custom gunite pool
Is fiberglass right for your project?
Fiberglass is a great fit when
- ✓You want a faster build and lower ongoing maintenance
- ✓Your lot is fairly level with good access for delivery
- ✓One of the manufacturer’s shapes and sizes works for you
- ✓Keeping the upfront budget down is a priority
Consider gunite instead when
- →You want a fully custom shape, size, or a deeper end
- →You want an infinity edge, large tanning ledge, or grotto
- →Your lot is sloped or access is tight for a one-piece shell
Not sure which way to go? Compare gunite — we build both and will give you a straight recommendation.
How a Fiberglass Pool Is Installed
Phase 01
Excavation & Base
We excavate to the shell’s exact profile and set a compacted, precisely leveled gravel base for it to rest on.
Phase 02
Set the Shell
The one-piece fiberglass shell is delivered and craned into the excavation, then leveled and positioned to exact elevation.
Phase 03
Plumb & Backfill
We connect the plumbing and backfill around the shell as the pool is filled with water, keeping inside and outside pressure balanced.
Phase 04
Deck, Coping & Startup
We finish the surrounding deck and coping, install and commission the equipment, then balance the water for first swim.
Budget & Financing
Fiberglass pools in the DMV typically run $65,000–$125,000
Final cost scales with shell size, deck scope, equipment, and site access. See our full DMV pricing guide and explore flexible financing options.

What Our Customers Say
April 2023
“I reviewed multiple proposals on rebuilding a pool upon the purchase of our new house. The previous owner had deferred maintenance on literally every aspect of the pool. Our pool required 100% replacement of the filtration system, heater, skimmers and reconstruction of the drainage system, pool floor, tile and coping. Beltway Pools was by far the most responsive of the bidders with the most reasonable and easiest to understand pricing. Anything that I required clarity on they provided. We now are almost a year past the initial work and they did not deviate one penny from their original pricing. They continue to support us with weekly visits (incremental cost but well worth it) for cleaning and chemical balancing. We are very pleased with our service from Beltway Pools. -Andrew T. Fiberglass Pools — Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a fiberglass pool cost in the DMV?
In Northern Virginia, Maryland, and DC, a fiberglass inground pool typically runs $65,000–$125,000 installed — generally less than a comparable custom gunite pool because the shell is factory-molded rather than built on site. Your final price depends on the shell model and size, the deck and coping scope around it, equipment, and site access. Tougher access (the shell is delivered as one piece and craned into place) and any grading or retaining work add to the total. For a site-specific number, request a free consultation.
What are the size and shape limits of a fiberglass pool?
Fiberglass pools are limited to the shapes and sizes their manufacturers mold. In practice that means:
- Width — usually about 16 ft maximum, because the finished shell ships over the road as a single piece
- Length — commonly up to roughly 40 ft
- Shapes — rectangle, freeform/lagoon, and lap-style models; angular geometric and true infinity-edge designs are not available
- Depth — set by the mold, typically up to about 6 ft
If you need a larger footprint, a fully custom shape, a deep end, or a vanishing edge, a gunite pool is the better choice.
How long does a fiberglass pool last?
A quality fiberglass shell is structurally durable and there is no liner to replace. The factory gelcoat surface is smooth and resists algae, but it does gradually oxidize and fade over time — most gelcoat finishes look their best for about 25–35 years before refinishing is worth considering. That's longer than a vinyl liner's replacement cycle, though still short of the 50+ year structural life of a well-built gunite shell that can be resurfaced indefinitely. For most owners the trade-off is intentional: fiberglass offers a faster install and lower maintenance in exchange for less customization.
Should I choose a fiberglass or a gunite pool?
It comes down to priorities. Fiberglass is the better fit when you want a faster install, a low-maintenance surface, and a lower cost on a fairly level lot — and you're comfortable choosing from the manufacturer's shapes and sizes. Gunite is the better fit when you want a fully custom shape or size, a deep end, an infinity edge or other signature features, or you're building on a sloped or difficult lot. We build both, so we'll walk you through the trade-offs honestly during your consultation. Compare in detail on our gunite pools page, or model both in the pool build cost calculator.
