Why Pool Maintenance Matters

Routine pool maintenance does more than just keep your water sparkling-it's a crucial part of protecting your investment. A well-maintained pool runs more efficiently, looks more inviting, and requires fewer costly repairs over time. Whether it's a backyard oasis or a commercial facility, consistent care helps prevent major issues before they start.

Every maintenance visit includes:

  • Testing the water for proper chemical levels.
  • Adding chemicals as needed to maintain the proper balances.
  • Scrubbing the swimming pool sides and walls.
  • Vacuuming the swimming pool on a frequent bases.
  • Inspecting pool equipment and plumbing to ensure efficient operation.

Protect Your Equipment & Save Money

Your pool's pumps, filters, heaters, and plumbing work hard every day. Without regular maintenance, minor wear and tear can quickly snowball into major breakdowns. By routinely cleaning filters, checking pressure levels, and inspecting components, our technicians help you avoid expensive replacements and emergency repairs. Preventative care is always more affordable than damage control.

Keep Your Pool Safe & Healthy

Unbalanced water chemistry isn't just uncomfortable-it can be dangerous. Too much chlorine can irritate skin and eyes, while too little can allow bacteria and algae to grow. Our expert team ensures that your water stays perfectly balanced, so it's always safe for your family, pets, and guests.

Let's face it-owning a pool should be about relaxing, not cleaning your pool or troubleshooting equipment. Seasonal Opening & Closing

Virginia, Maryland, and DC experience all four seasons-and your pool needs the right care to transition safely and smoothly between them. That's where Beltway Pools comes in. Our expert opening and closing services help prevent seasonal damage, reduce wear on equipment, and ensure your pool is always ready when you are.
Pool Opening Services
When warmer weather rolls in, your pool needs more than just a cover removed. Our pool opening service is designed to bring your pool back to life after months of winter dormancy.
What's included:
  • Cover removal and cleaning: We safely remove and store your pool cover to keep it in good condition for next season.
  • Reassembly of equipment: We reinstall and reconnect filters, pumps, heaters, and any removed accessories with precision.
  • Initial cleaning and shock treatment: We vacuum debris, skim surfaces, and perform an initial shock treatment to help clear up cloudy or stagnant water.
  • System start-up and testing: Once everything is assembled, we turn on your equipment, inspect for leaks or issues, and ensure proper water circulation.
Pool Closing Services
Winterizing your pool properly is one of the most important steps to protecting your investment. When done wrong, freezing temperatures and idle systems can cause costly damage. Let our team handle it right the first time.
What's included:
  • Equipment disassembly and winterization: We carefully disconnect and drain pumps, heaters, filters, and other equipment to prevent freezing and cracking.
  • Draining and chemical balancing: We adjust water levels and apply winter chemicals to prevent algae growth and protect surfaces.
  • Cover installation: We securely install your pool cover, ensuring it fits properly and will hold up against harsh weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be home during pool maintenance visits?

No—you don't need to be present as long as we have access to your pool area and equipment room. Many of our regular maintenance clients aren't home during their scheduled visits. Our technicians complete the service and document the condition of your pool so you always know what was done.

Do you service and maintain saltwater pools?

Yes. Saltwater pools require specialized care—including monitoring salt levels, inspecting and replacing salt cells, and carefully balancing pH and alkalinity. Our technicians are experienced with all major salt chlorination systems and will keep your saltwater pool operating safely and efficiently year-round.

Why is winter pool maintenance important?

Proper winterization protects your investment in several important ways:

  • Prevents freeze damage – Water left in pipes and equipment can expand and crack when temperatures drop below freezing
  • Protects equipment – Pumps, heaters, and filters can be permanently damaged by improper or skipped winterization
  • Maintains water quality – A correctly closed pool is far easier to balance when it reopens in spring
  • Reduces spring costs – Skipping winterization often results in costly repairs, staining, and extra labor when the pool reopens

A thorough pool closing each fall is one of the best investments you can make in the long-term health of your pool and equipment.

Can I request a specific service day for my pool maintenance?

We route our maintenance teams by geographic area, so each location is assigned a designated service day of the week. This ensures consistent scheduling and efficient service throughout the season.

Give us a call and we can let you know which day your area is scheduled—and in many cases, work with you if you have a specific preference.

How often should a pool be professionally serviced?

For most residential pools in the DMV area, weekly professional service during the swim season (late April through October) is the standard recommendation. Bi-weekly service is available for pools with low bather load and robust automation systems, but weekly visits are better for water quality, equipment longevity, and catching problems early.

At a minimum, every pool should be professionally serviced at opening in spring and closing in fall. Year-round maintenance plans are also available for pools with heating systems that allow extended seasons.

See our maintenance plans — all include opening, closing, and seasonal service bundled at a predictable annual price.

Can I upgrade or change my maintenance plan mid-season?

Yes. If your schedule or pool usage changes during the season, you can upgrade from a Basic to a Deluxe or Premium plan, or adjust visit frequency with reasonable notice. We try to accommodate mid-season changes whenever our scheduling permits.

Contact our office to discuss adjustments — we'll find the best fit for your situation.

What happens if your technician finds a problem during a routine maintenance visit?

If our technician identifies an equipment issue, water chemistry problem, or structural concern during a routine visit, here's what happens:

  1. The issue is documented with photos and notes in the service report you receive after the visit.
  2. Our office contacts you to explain the finding and discuss next steps.
  3. For minor issues within the scope of your plan, we resolve them on the spot.
  4. For issues requiring additional parts or repair work, we provide a written repair quote before proceeding — no surprise charges.

We believe in proactive communication. A small issue caught during a routine visit almost always saves significant cost compared to an emergency repair later in the season.
